About me

Devon moths (1)_edited_edited.jpg

Nature is one of life's most precious gifts. Deer delight us with their gracefulness. Butterflies enchant us with their beauty. Birds captivate us with their flight. To watch a flock of ten thousand starlings dancing at sundown is to experience first-hand the wonder of life.

I'm Luke, and for as long as I can remember I've been obsessed with the natural world. I've got up before dawn to find wallabies and cassowaries in dense rainforest, and stayed up late to find owls and deer in English woods. I've watched birds until I learnt how to identify every single British species, carried out innumerable surveys, and recorded the moths in my garden using a homemade light trap. Along the way I've wandered through remote forests at midnight, got loads of insect bites, and been accidentally locked in a Mallorcan vineyard.

Above all, I love telling people about the wild. I write articles and presentations, make videos, and volunteer as a nature guide. I also helped save my local nature reserve from a proposed bypass. This is my gift to people, and also to nature, my answer to the ecological crisis. There is joy in this adventure, and joy in nature.

I'm on a mission to share this joy with the world.
